She proceeded to send that piece of writing to Robin Schwartz, a programming executive at the production company Big Beach, who liked Steinkellner's concept and had her draft a full script. Having had ten more years to delve into the factual history and knowing more about the Tudor era, the glaring (a harsh word to use, but accurate) historical errors do stick out (esp Elizabeth's meeting with Mary) and make you wonder why they'd change such things. Production values are great.
I think this performance by Helen Mirren is 'The Best'!! Very highly recommended. It follows the period from control freak king Henry II to the tyrant king Richard II. Very reminiscent of the BBC mini-series, Elizabeth R., as it more historically accurate than any of the other Elizabeth I films and has no problem showing the complexities and intrigue of her court. [HBO] HD. Unfortunately the quality and colour of the picture was not nearly as sharp as when I had seen it on TV. As someone who has taught Tudor History, I enjoyed the series and the production's focus on combining fact with entertainment.Focus is almost exclusively on the extreme (and extremely unlikely) ... Impressive attention to detail and a close atmosphere created by showing the rush matting in the palaces and very low ceilings which gives an oppressive feeling.
And read large books!!. A must see for fans of historical or costume dramas.
Naturally, comparisons between the two shows became inevitable. Of course, it's for 'dramatic effect', but why do we need more of this? I come from Plymouth and have been to Sir Francis Drakes' house many times as a child and older, a beautifully preserved Tudor/Elizabethan Estate at' Buckland Abbey', Yelverton on the edge of Dartmoor Devon.This film reminded me of it. With Guylaine Tremblay, Anne-Élisabeth Bossé, Mickaël Gouin, Sophie Desmarais.
