Albert said he wants to get the kinks worked out so that the “countless opportunities” of the full development can be realized.However, Grand Texas is still battling the negative perception that a previous-planned project in New Caney created, he said.Another theme park — the planned $500 million dinosaur-themed EarthQuest — was set to be built near the same tract of land as Grand Texas several years ago.But the project never came to fruition, and the theme park’s parent company, Whitestone Houston Land Ltd., went bankrupt in 2011.Even with the park opening in stages, Albert said many visitors he’s spoken to are rooting for the park to succeed and can see the potential for Grand Texas.In just a few months, Big Rivers has drawn crowds. In her four visits, Hargett said the staff has been polite and she and her 9-year-old son have “never” had to wait in long lines.“It took a little while to open, but we were so excited when it did,” she said.Big Rivers has 15 slides in the children’s area, nine adult-sized body slides that opened last month, two family raft attractions that opened last week and a wave pool that can comfortably float a few hundred people. It will be located within the Grand Texas Sports and Entertainment District in New Caney, Montgomery County at Interstate 69 (US Highway 59) and SH 242. in Patton Village. With nearly 15,000 homes being built in the area, he said the Grand Texas complex is primed to be the major entertainment attraction for north Houston.“We’re treating 2019 as our inaugural year,” he said.Looking out his window, Albert said he’s excited to see the progress firsthand, like the ongoing construction of Speed Street—a quarter-mile road that created an entrance to Speedsportz Racing and will be the main road into Grand Texas at opening.Over the next year, Albert said he’s awaiting completion of the development’s sportsplex, and as plans move on to the next steps of the Grand Texas storage facility and eventually the amusement park, he said the vision of what the nearly $1 billion development will mean for the Houston area is becoming a reality.“(The Grand Parkway) connected us to the world, and it’s only going to connect us further,” Albert said.
