Midnights Furies: The Deadly Legacy of Indias Partition by Nisid Hajari Like the Rape of Nanking, the partition of India was a dramatic, bloody crisis that remains a key historical faultline today. My biggest complaint is that it seemed based to large degree on secondary sources (more so than I'd hoped and the preface seemed to suggest), and as such it didn't seem to cover as much new ground as one would hope for an already thoroughly documented historical event.
