I fought my way through 'great north road' and got to the rather lame ending, after what seemed to be mainly a detective novel, and with this one I've finally ground to a halt half way through as, after a really promising start that was back to the old days of his writing, we are now treated to a story of the rise to political power of an inhabitant of a planet in the void, which, while well written, is not what I turn to Peter Hamilton for. Reasonable concept spoiled by passages that reminded me of those old "Confessions of a..." movies (just add taxi driver / window cleaner / plumber.)
