As Lír protects her, Schmendrick turns Amalthea back into the Unicorn, but she is unwilling to leave Lír's side. From a riddle-speaking butterfly (Richard Klein), a unicorn (Mia Farrow) learns that she is supposedly the last of her kind, all of the others having been herded away by the Red Bull. The Last Unicorn is a fantasy novel by American author Peter S. Beagle and published in 1968, by Viking Press in the U.S. and The Bodley Head in the U.K. Fearing that Schmendrick and Molly Grue may fulfill an age-old curse laid upon their town by bringing Haggard to ruin, Drinn attempts to have the Unicorn and her companions slain before they can reach Haggard's castle. The Unicorn says goodbye to Schmendrick, who laments he wronged her by burdening her with regret and the taint of mortality, which could make her unable to properly rejoin her kind. A brave unicorn (Mia Farrow) and a magician (Alan Arkin) fight an evil King (Sir Christopher Lee), who is obsessed with attempting to capture the world's unicorns.
