By Chelsie hill & Jessica Love. It was very uplifting and had a positive message.
The main character, Kara Moore, was very funny and witty! Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read.
Bigger than big! However, it was made from real life. Create an account or log into Facebook. Both Amanda and Jack were very likable.
I will cherish this book forever and have gotten every single one of my friends to start reading it. June 3rd 2014
I loved the subject. I loved the subject.
The protagonist, Kara, is a gifted dancer whose car is hit by a drunk driver and she wakes up in the hospital with a severe spinal injury and no feeling in her legs. Kara's story goes from normal teenage drama to life altering in a few pages. Praise for Pushout: "Pushout is for everyone who cares about children, especially teachers, school administrators and policymakers, whose decisions - big and small - shape how black girls learn and live."
We really hope you enjoy reading about Kara and her journey! I definitely flew through this book and could barely put it down. I love Kara's way of thinking when people say to you that your are so strong and are so inspiring and she thinks of it as us girls in wheelchairs don't really have a choice to be strong and we don't try to...it is just what we have to do. One of my favorite parts was when Kara realized that in moving Kara's room, her mom would have found all kinds of embarrassing things. For so many reasons. A strong female teenager who goes through a terrible accident and discovers her strengths and who her real friends are.A compelling and important read full of raw, honest emotions. The main character is lucky to have two very caring friends to help her.Genre: realistic fiction, based on a true story, YAOk-ish book for pre-teens and high-schoolers. The book made me tear up at times (a rare I wasn't sure if I would like this one because I can't stand issue books or dark and depressing YA contemporary books - but I'm so glad I gave this book a chance, because it wasn't either of those things.
Where do I even start? Throughout the made up story of Kara you see how she deals with the life change. It was a very important story, and it really made me think, as well as opened my eyes to different perspectives. Story was too sappy, inspirational and happy go lucky for me, didn't delve into the true emotions/difficulties that come from a spinal chord injuryI put this on my TBR during diversity bingo 2017 and thought it was a memoir until I got it in the mail earlier this year. Jessica C. 5.0 out of 5 stars I fully expected to like this book. The theme of the story I believe is Never give up, she got knocked down to the lowest but she kept fighting and got through the rough times. In some stories, teen drama can drive me crazy, but here, it was written in a way that brought me back to that time and made me empathize with the Kara.
Thirteen years after its release, it was made into Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire, a film that won two Academy Awards and was directed by Lee Daniels The main character, Kara Moore, was very funny and witty!
I really enjoyed this book.
I loved Kara's voice because she actually reads like a real teenager who goes through both normal teen stuff (parents fighting, sucky boyfriends, mean girls at school), but also has to deal with life after a horrible accident that leaves her paralyzed. Not only did the book feature a main character with a disability, other characters were different (Curt is half Chinese.) The story is wonderfully tender and sensitive. The ending to this story wrapped up surprisingly neatly, butThis story of how Kara adjusts to life in a wheelchair is co-written by the young woman on whose life the story is based. 4 people found this helpful. I had read this book in two days and I just couldn't put it down.
I think this will have high teen appeal!
Although this story focuses on Kara's journey to becoming Kara 2.0 (the new version of herself after the accident), it also is about family and friendship and what really matters in our relationships and our lives. Last week we went to the museum. Another part that I loved is how Kara stood up for herself when people talked to her about what happened or throwing comments at her.
Through the eyes of a wheelchair bound person, you learn of the physical and emotional struggles most people have never had to go through. I was so happy to receive an advanced reading copy of this book from Chelsie at the New Jersey Abilities Expo! Push is a 2009 American superhero film directed by Paul McGuigan and written by David Bourla.
I love when that happens! Throughout the made up story of Kara you see how she deals with the life change. Also, I'm happy to say I will be donating a few copies of Push Girl to my high school library in order to get girls my age to read this book and understand that life in a wheelchair isn't all bad, you just have to keep your head up no matter what you are going through, and us girls in wheelchairs can do anything "normal"(I hate this word)girls can (if that is what you refer to yourselves as) because we are totally normal and on top of that we can have the honor of being called a Push Girl! This book is fairly typical for its (sub-)genre but did ultimately convince me in the last 80 pages.
I really hope there might be a sequel to this book---would love to find out more about these characters after this book ended. The book made me tear up at times (a rare thing for me), swoon over the awesomeness of Jack, and cheer for Kara when she succeeds. One of my favorite parts was when Kara realized that in moving Kara's room, her mom would have found all kinds of embarrassing things. Um huh, you know what I'm talking about.
